KALISPELL — Wildlife officials are investigating an incident that left a grizzly bear dead in Northwest Montana.
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are investigating the death of a grizzly bear from a reported self-defense shooting on Sinclair Creek Trail in the Kootenai National Forest east of Eureka.
An adult male was hunting alone when he reported a grizzly bear charging him on a forested trail on the morning of Nov. 7. He shot the bear and subsequently notified a Montana game warden, according to a news release. The bear was an adult female and was accompanied by a cub.
The incident remains under investigation and no additional information is available at this time.
