HELENA — Helena's Matt Kuntz has been selected to serve on the department of veterans affairs national research advisory council.

He is the executive director for the National Alliance of Mental Illness for Montana or N-A-M-I and serves as the director for the Center of Mental Illness Research and Recovery at MSU.

"I think the main goal is the right treatment at the right time for the people who live with mental health conditions, for veterans who live with mental health conditions," said Kuntz.

He has been involved in mental health since 2007, having lost his step brother to a post-traumatic-stress-related injury from military service in Iraq.

He told MTN his duty will be to help guide the council on their health care research towards veterans.

Kuntz said "That has always been what I've been obsessed about from the first day."

He will head to Washington D.C. in March for his first meeting with the Research Advisory Council.
