MISSOULA — There’s another option up and running for Missoulians who are looking to hit the ice for some winter fun.
The Pineview Park ice rink opened in the Rattlesnake on Christmas day.
Residents say this was one of the latest openings in the rink's history. It’s run by about 12 volunteers and funded partially by Missoula Parks and Recreation.
Hockey enthusiast Bill Bevis says when the rink started years ago, neighborhood residents used a fire hydrant and fire hoses to make the ice.
Now, Bevis says, it's the perfect place for families in the area.
"It's delightful, because this is a place to start. You're seeing a perfect example, and a couple of guys are back there playing hockey. Skating is just so natural and free, and efficient."
Volunteers are trying to purchase an old Zamboni, so they can open before Christmas next year.
