UPDATE: Aug. 7, 2020 - 10:20 a.m.
Big Sky Conference football fans will have to wait to get their fix.
Following a Thursday meeting with league presidents, athletic directors and officials, the Big Sky Conference has voted not to conduct a conference football schedule this fall. The league will instead look to play its conference football schedule in the spring of 2021.
Non-conference play for the league's programs is still pending further review, according to a Big Sky Conference release sent Friday morning.
(first report: Aug. 7, 2020 - 7:35 a.m.)
We're still waiting for word from the Big Sky Conference on the fate of fall sports, which of course, means the fate of Griz football.
That meeting was set for 4 p.m. Thursday, but the conference has yet to make a public announcement.
MTN News has confirmed that an announcement is expected to be made on Friday morning.
You have probably seen widespread unofficial reports that the fall season is canceled, but no official indication from the conference itself.
The ruling expected on Friday will affect all sports at the University of Montana -- meaning volleyball, football, soccer and cross country.
We will update you when this announcement is made.
