MISSOULA — The University of Montana is hiring more staff to deal with students in a more hands on way.

Notably, the financial aid office is trying to fill seven more front desk positions as part of UM's attempt to bulk up staffing in areas that influence retention.

There is also a new director in financial aid. Emily Williamson moved into the role this spring She told MTN News that financial aid is a key component to getting students to stay.

"I'm just really really excited for what this next year will bring for our office and for our students," Williamson said. "We have a really great opportunity with President Bodnar's support to really be student-centered. And having the staffing to do that will make that successful for all of our students and for the team here. We're super excited."

She says they hope to hire in the coming weeks, but the start of class has slowed down the recruiting process. All employees are also being trained to work the front desk.
