MISSOULA — Yesterday morning we saw low lying stratus clouds develop over Flathead Lake before skies cleared. We will be watching for more stratus clouds and fog to develop each morning this week as high pressure continues to build leading to valley inversions.
Air quality will continue to deteriorate through the week and weekend as well. Seeley Lake is reporting "Unhealthy" air quality this morning while Missoula and Libby are reporting "Moderate" air quality. An Air Stagnation Advisory remains in place for the Kootenai/Cabinet Region, Seeley Lake/Potomac Region along with the Missoula/Bitterroot Valleys through 11 am Saturday.
The forecast challenge this week remains pinning down those daytime temperatures due to strengthening valley inversions. if locations can break free of those inversions and cold air pools, highs will warm into the upper 30s to mid 40s. However, locations that can not break free will see highs only in the 20s.
