MISSOULA – Missoula County commissioners aren’t sure how to help, but they’d like to find a way to assist local federal workers who’ve been idled by the partial federal government shutdown.
Commissioner Dave Strohmaier expressed concern during a Thursday meeting for the government workers who aren’t receiving paychecks, saying they represent a major segment of the local economy.
The brief discussion touched on the idea of using the county’s economic development programs as a revolving loan of sorts, especially since the Trump Administration is guaranteeing employees will be paid later.
The board isn’t sure if that’s legally possible, but asked staff to look into possible options.
