Crews holding fire near Thompson Lakes

LIBBY – Montana DNRC firefighters are keeping the upper hand on a fire which started southeast of Libby at Thompson Lakes.

DNRC reports the first started on Tuesday south of Lower Thompson Lake in the Tornilla Creek drainage.

Crews hit it quickly with heavy equipment and managed to limit its spread to 50-acres.

Firefighters were able to hold the lines Wednesday after one break out across the control lines overnight.

Sixty-five firefighters have already been on scene, with more than 100 reporting by Wednesday evening.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
