MISSOULA – Missoula County Public Schools directors are going to ask for the public’s help as the district puts together a “shopping list” of characteristics for a new school superintendent.

The district is just starting the process to find a replacement for Superintendent Mark Thane, who last fall announced he’d be retiring at the end of this school year.

The school board has hired a consultant to help with that search, and started the process by going through a long list of qualities and abilities they’d each like to see in the new superintendent.

But the public is being asked to help as well. A new survey is going “live” on the MCPS homepage tonight. And community forums have been scheduled for Monday, February 25 and Wednesday, February 27.

“We want everyone to feel like they have an opportunity to participate in the search for a new superintendent. And we’re trying to make it as easy as possible for people to do that,” said MCPS Board Chair Marcia Holland.

The board will take comments until mid-March. Directors will discuss the timeline for finding the new superintendent at Tuesday night’s board meeting.
