MISSOULA — The choir students from Missoula's C.S. Porter Middle School were recently invited to the American Choral Directors' Association Northwest Conference which will take place next spring in Spokane.

That invite meant they needed to get a photo of their choir in from of an iconic Montana landmark -- and they chose historic Engine Number 7 outside the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula.

But because it was a formal photo, that also meant the kids had to be in formal dress, without their coats, in the 20-degree weather.

“We wanted to have some pictures that really represent Missoula and we thought it was a beautiful day out today,” said Chris Whiteman, the C.S. Porter choir director. “So, we thought it was a good idea."

With Missoula photographer Bea Huffman's expert direction, the students not only took their poses, but did it without shivering too much.

"It's very challenging. They're great kids. They're tough kids. They're Montana kids." said Whiteman

The C.S. Porter Choir is having a piece commissioned for them to perform at the conference in March. And certainly, after today's cold they should be commissioned to hit all the high notes!
