GREAT FALLS — As the temperature drops, don’t forget to keep your pipes warm.
The owner of Kindred Plumbing in Great Falls, John Kindred, said you should keep your furnace going.
Don’t let your house get colder than 50º to 55º.
If you’re worried about your pipes freezing, letting water slowly drip from the faucet may help.
You should also know where the main water shutoff is in your house so you can quickly turn the water off if your pipes do freeze.
"If things are frozen, usually your house is cold. So definitely the first thing is turn your heat up and turn the water off to the house and let somebody know. Get somebody over there to get it fixed,” said Kindred.
If you’re going to try to unfreeze your pipes, he recommends not using a flame. Instead, use a hairdryer or something similar.
