HELENA — The Montana Department of Justice recently announced changes to the Motor Vehicle Division to help better serve the public during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Anyone whose driver's license is set to expire can renew it online and people who choose to renew online will receive a license valid for two more years with their current picture.

This will also apply to commercial driver's licenses.

The temporary licenses will not be available for Real ID, but MVD is still holding appointments while following health guidelines.

MVD has also granted an extension to those whose driver's licenses recently expired.

“If your driver's license expired this past March or in April or May of this year, you have been given a 90-day extension to renew. Which alleviates the need for you to come in right away if you prefer to wait,” Montana Attorney General Tim Fox said.

Dealerships and vehicle owners have also been granted a 90-day extension to file and register vehicles transferred to them.
