WEST GLACIER – We still don’t know if Glacier National Park came close to setting a record for park visits last year because the government shutdown is delaying the processing of final numbers for 2018.

Usually, by this point in January, the National Park Service would have released the reports for December, and the totals for the entire year of park traffic. But as of this week, the numbers don’t show any statistics past November.

It’s of interest because it appeared the park wouldn’t be able to break the record of 3.2 million people in 2017.

At the end of November, 2.9 million people had visited Glacier in 2018, which was a 10% drop from the previous year’s record but was still matching the 2016 traffic numbers.
