MISSOULA — Missoula County Public Schools trustees approved plans to convert the old Missoula College campus into a new facility last year.

The buildings will combine the MCPS administrative offices and additional district programs into a single location.

The college campus was returned to the district when the Missoula College moved to a new school in the Hellgate Canyon.

MCPS had budgeted $5.9 million to convert the campus and work started a few months ago.

However, administrators recently told the board contractors had run into "unforeseen conditions and code-related upgrades".

Trustees approved spending an additional $365,0009 to pay for asbestos removal, upgrades to the structure and fire sprinklers, permits, electrical and energy system changes.

MCPS will use its building reserve levy to cover the additional expenses.
