Pedestrian struck and killed near Pablo identified

POLSON — Authorities have released the name of the man who was struck and killed while walking along US Highway 93 near Pablo over the weekend.

Lake County Sheriff Don Bell says 26-year-old Michael J. Gardipe Jr. of Pablo died after being hit by a vehicle south of Pablo at around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The Montana Highway Patrol previously told MTN News that a 56-year-old woman from Polson was driving along the right side of the southbound lane when she then struck the victim.

Gardipe was taken to a St. Luke’s Hospital in Ronan where he died from his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was uninjured was taken to the hospital for further investigation.

The Montana Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the accident.
