DARBY — Darby head football coach Jeff Snavely has resigned from his position nearly a month after comments he made on a social media post suggesting protestors should be hanged came to light. The post and his Facebook account have since been deleted.
The Darby School District announced the resignation in a press release on Facebook on Friday afternoon.
The Darby school board voted on June 26 to retain Snavely but opted to suspend him for a year without pay along with requirements to form a committee on racial and social justice as well as attend training sessions for himself.
Snavely was the head football coach at Darby for the past seven seasons.
The school district says that the resignation of coach Snavely will not change their direction on addressing racism in the community. We'll continue to update you on Darby's plans moving forward.
