MISSOULA — A COVID-19 case has been confirmed in the Missoula County Detention Center.

Missoula County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Jeannette Smith says that “following pre-established screening and health assessment during booking,” jail staff isolated and then tested a person who exhibited symptoms related to COVID-19.

Smith says that testing results confirmed the isolated inmate is positive for coronavirus. Test results were received within 24 hours.
"The information provided by the inmate prompted jail staff to initiate pre-established operating guidelines, isolate the inmate in an area designated for this purpose, and initiate a COVID-19 test,” Smith stated in a news release. “These measures ensured that the inmate had no contact with other inmates in the facility.”

The inmate will remain isolated in the Missoula jail and will be treated by detention center nursing staff. Once the inmate has been cleared by a public health nurse the inmate will be no longer be in isolation, according to Smith.

The date the individual was booked into the detention facility will not be provided due to privacy concerns.
