The names of the officers involved in a shooting in Kila over the weekend that left one man dead have been identified
The officers have been identified as Flathead County Sergeant Logan Shawback, Travis Smith and Kalispell police officer Jordan Venezio. Flathead County Sheriff Brian Heino says law enforcement were called to a Kila residence on Sunday for reports of a disturbance with a weapon.
Heino says when they arrived, shots were fired from the suspect, who was identified as 52-year-old Anthony Grove, from inside the residence, prompting the SWAT team to be called.
After three hours of negotiation, Grove shot at law enforcement and Shawback, Smith, and Venezio returned fire. Grove was pronounced deceased on the scene and no officers were injured.
Heino says it's standard in cases like this to have an internal investigation.
"Anytime there is a discharge of a fire arm, whether there's an injury or not there's that investigation," Heino said. "And the coroner's inquest is defined as any in custody death with law enforcement."
Heino added that as standard practice, all three have been placed on administrative leave, pending the investigation.
