HAMILTON — The Ravalli County Board of Health won't wait until next week to address the departure of Health Director Carol Calderwood, opting to hold a special meeting to discuss the vacancy Friday.
Dr. Calderwood submitted her resignation letter over the weekend, saying she was stepping down after 13-years in a dispute over how the county's elected officials are approaching the state's order to wear masks in public.
County commissioners and Sheriff Steve Holton said the county wouldn't be writing any criminal citations for people going against Governor Bullock's mandate. But Calderwood said that position put her in a "no-win" scenario.
The Board of Health, which oversees the county health policies, wasn't supposed to meet until next week. But now the board plans to hold a special meeting Friday to discuss Calderwood's resignation and the latest pandemic developments in the Bitterroot.
